In some modules there is no save as function, so a copy is advisable before editing. On windows, locate the Google/Nik directory in Program Files and you should be able to locate either 32bit or 64bit. At least some appear to work with a 16bit TIFF.

The alternative and slightly longer answer is yes for most of the modules, but only for JPEG ot TIFF files as far as I can tell and it appears to vary. Updated from my earlier post, I got caught by the time limit.

Here's some information that may be useful: And the original image was never altered.Have been playing around with the Nik software col. That is something that I liked about the old Nikon Capture NX program the Raw files remained as Raw files regardless of what editing took place. Is there any way that I can use the Nik collection as stand alone editing software without having to access it through PSE 14? If my understanding is correct, the Nik software will not change the raw file to any other format unless requested. When I open a Nikon Raw file directly into PSE 14 Expert and then save the file it changes it to Jpeg. I usually shot Nikon Raw and have found that when I open a Nikon Raw file in Camera Raw it changes the file to DNG. When I downloaded Nik it automatically became a plug-in to PSE 14 which I have been using. And the original image was never altered.

Not surprising in that it is my understanding that Capture NX was written by Nik for Nikon before being bought by Google. In many respects it is similar to the old Nikon Capture NX program. Have been playing around with the Nik software collection offered for free by Google.
